Tata Sons appoints Nupur Mallick as HR Chief

Nupur Mallick who had been part of TCS since 1997 is now set to be the new HR Chief of Tata Sons. With this appointment the Chairman of Tata Sons, N Chandrasekaran further strengthens his leadership team.

Chandrasekaran who joined Tata Sons as the Chairman in February 2017 was earlier the CEO of TCS. As per a report, he has been building up a support system comprising external hires and candidates from TCS. This has not been received well by the old leaders of Tata Sons as they are unhappy about key portfolios being allocated to new recruits.

Nupur Mallick replaces S Padmanabhan who had been heading the HR function for past 18 months. He would be turning 60 this May and hence would be retiring as per the company policy.

Nupur was a campus placement hire and joined TCS as HR Officer in Mumbai. Ever since then she has been part of the company and seen the business grow. She has headed the HR function for TCS Mumbai where she was responsible for driving performance-oriented culture, career and succession planning, employee engagement and establishing world class induction process. Later, in December 2005 she was appointed as the HR Director for UK and Ireland. Under her leadership, TCS UK & Ireland has achieved the ‘Investor in People' certification with Gold status and awarded Britain's top employers by CRI for four consecutive years.

Nupur is an alumnus of XISS, Ranchi, where she pursued her masters in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations. Her areas of expertise include integrating teams in culturally diverse set-ups, driving operational excellence, retaining and developing talent and structuring compensation & benefits.
